Spring Break Music Week

Join our great music community for a fun week of music and dancing! March 23rd to 28th.

Join Emily Elam for a fun and informative beginner’s banjo class on the frailing or clawhammer technique. This class is for students who have no experience on the banjo.

You will need a working instrument and a recording device (your smart phone will do). If you don’t own a banjo, a limited number will be available to borrow. Just let us know so we can reserve a banjo for you.

After learning the basics of holding your banjo, we will learn to play essential chords and a simple melody using the “clawhammer” technique. Tab and recordings will be provided for all tunes taught.  We will also discuss efficient practice strategies and techniques for learning new tunes on your own.

By the end of the workshop, you will have the tools you need to continue learning clawhammer banjo.

Catch Emily and her husband Everett perform at Club Possum Thursday night at 7.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to Clog? Or wondered exactly what is clog dancing?

Clogging is an expressive style of American dance with origins in the folk dances of the British Isles, Africa, and pre-Columbian America. Settlers in the American South took elements of these styles to form a unique American dance style, Appalachian clog dancing. Christie likes to describe clogging as a country tap dance!

Christie has been clogging for 32 years. She has performed with The Charlie Daniels Band. She also performed in a popular country Christian Branson show. She has won numerous talent awards throughout Arkansas including, The Mt View Bean Fest Talent Contest, Arkansas Star Fair Grand Talent Award, Newport Port Fest Talent winner, numerous local contests along with talent award at The Miss Arkansas Pageant.

Christie not only loves clogging but she is very passionate about sharing her talent and teaching others how to clog.

Clogging is fun, great exercise and good for stress relief. Once you learn the few easy basic steps you can be on your way to being a pro clogger!!!
